Question Debate....

i need some opinions here... broke a rod in half and shattered something else in my motor.. mechanic has it now and is taking the engine out for repair... HERE IS THE DEBATE... I found a LT1 motor with Iron heads and 55k miles on it for $600. but it will cost me about $200 to ship it.... I havent gotten a final quote from my mechanic yet on how much to fix my engine... SO.. if it were you guys.. what would you do?? Repair? Or Buy New/Used motor....
BTW...my motor has 106k miles on it..

It depends on wheather you want a performance rebuild or stock.
If stock, then it would be fine to get a low milage short-block, and replace it. Unless your heads are damaged I wouldn't buy the iron head long block. Get a valve job and you're set. Even if they are you can score some aluminum lt1s for around $300.

Uhh...iron head LT1s are from the Impala SS/Roadmaster and only have 260hp. NOT my first choice.

Can you salvage the heads from your current motor?

ok..so far... the heads are in good shape.. he still needs to look at the CAM to see if any damage was done to it... as of right now the engine needs replacment..... 1 lifter 1 rod 1 intake valve and 1 exhaust valve.... he says that if the CAM is ok.. that should be all thats wrong with it..... here is my problem now... i am not a technical person at all... so the above mentioned things are chinese to me..... any ideas what those parts cost? and also.. how much is fair to pay him to do the work? any input would be helpful
