deal or no deal?

ran across this
Lt1 Stroker 383 400 forged cranked, machined block, Forged Rods, bored .30 over, performance pistons, Hot cam, 36 lb injectors, high flow oil pump, 0 miles on the engine, Ran once on dyno produced 700 horsepower to flywheel
$1500OBO

I doubt the 700hp, but the bottom end is worth the price, or am i way off? I need a new bottom end for my motor, its this deal or a fresh rebuild with probibly stock pieces and a cam?

what do you think? Deal or walk away?

its a good deal...that thing with a hotcam is NOT going to make 700HP...maybe with a 300shot or a blower...otherwise, that bottom end is probably $2500-$3K if new...id be careful though...

i would want to know what kind of piston, rods, and crank it is. The "400" crank doesnt sound correct to me. Who build the engine? Is it local, can you go a check it out?

The 700 flywheel hp is total BS. Theres no way.

As for your stock rebuild i would at least throw some forged pistons and good rod bolts in. Those two upgrades will make the shortblock good till 450-500rwhp. Maybe past that if your not turing 6800-7k rpms.

so it would be safer to rebuild my own (already out of the car and stripped down) with forged pistons and arp bolts? vs this deal? if pistons and bolts will get me 450-500rwhp, thats more than what i was planning on. So the extra dough for stroked "forged" bottom end could be used some place else right?

I guess it boils down to trusting this guy that built it, or doing it myself with less potential i probibly won't use(forged stroker). or am i way off?

If he is claiming 700hp then who know what else he is lieing about. unless the engine is apart and you have someone that can go over it and what is what then i would walk away.

thats a good point. I think i might walk away. I'll just look around for some rods and pistons then use the stock crank.

I found some eagle SIR rods for $75 used, what kind of deal is that? Good or not so good?

It sounds fishy to me, but what's even fishier is the idea of you putting down 450-500rwhp with a stock motor, forged pistons and rod bolts. Unless that is with nitrous or FI.

I think he means that the stock shortblock will hold 450-500rwhp with forged pistons and arp bolts in the rods.

Those Eagle SIR rods for 75 would be a good deal. Throw the arp bolts in them, find a cheap forged piston and than pick out a topend.
