daytime driving lights

is there a way to make those daytime driving headlights not go on most of the time....sometimes its sunny out and they come on, i kinda like to save my headlight since theyre so expensive, i also like the look where only your red marker lights are on...anyone knows of a solution. the other day i was beside another camaro, looked like 93-97, he didnt have his lights on, only the marker lights, and mine were on, how can that be, dont they have the same kinda sensor or whatever.

i thought 97's were the only ones that had day time running lights. My 95 doesn't but my friends 97 does.

i have a 96 so i dont have the daytime running headlights....but i have read somewhere that it has to do with the sensor on the dash...the little red nipple looking thing...i have one of those, but its for my security system....so it may be somethin to do with that...do a search you'll find it...

96 models have a little sensor right next to the little alarm light. The red blinking one. It was designed to pick up low light (near dusk and dawn) when it is hardest to see your car IF your lights are off. So the sensor turns them on for you. I can't say for sure how it works on 95 models.. but if you have this sensor (it's a little hole.. about the size of a pencil tip) just cover it up with something. I believe that shuts it off and you turn on/off your lights when you please. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

No, it wasn't an option I don't believe. Like I said the sensor picks up low light (such as from clouds, shade etc) and was designed to automaticaly turn on your head lights so that you are more visable to other drivers. And I just realized my last post was retarded about covering the sensor up... if you cover it, then no light gets to it.. therefore your lights are on all the time.. go me

I don't think my '97 has daytime lights. I only notice the amber lights on in the front, which I like. I've had the car since I bought it new, and have never seen my lights come on during the day. They do automatically come on when it's getting dark though, but nothing when it's light out.

There has to be a way to disable the sensor (Which btw why is yours so sensitive to light anyways? mine only comes on when it's close to dusk) anyways... ask Brent about it.. he'll probably be able to help you.

Hey Man , ,If you want to disable the DRL (daytime running lights) do what I did. i drive a 95 transam formula and the lights kept popping up when ever id hit a shadow and it was getting ANNOYING. so i looked in a service manual at work and found a schematic fo rthe drl and the sensor. turns out if you constanly ground the e brake switch out then it will disable the system. try it if you drive with the ebrake up 1 click the drl should stay off. however this mat not work for cars with traction control i dont know. if they stay down then pull the console off and find the wire on the ebrake switch and ground it out. the warning light will be permanently on just so you know. the lights will work now only if you turn them on and off.

my car has daytime running lamps but only the amber parking lights are on during the day. the headlights sometimes turn on in a dark tunnel but thats that worst of it for me.. they always come on during the low light part of the day like they are supposed to. maybe GM revised the system to not be so sensative. sorry i cant help ya on how to turn it off though... just think they cant be THAT annoying.

well the problem is not only because i like the car better with the headlights off, its also because i just put in 2 headlights and they costed me 100 bucks (canadian), theyre just anoying ( maybe not that much) because they go on even if its sunny, it really have to be bright and i mean bright like the sunlight is hitting the sensor dead on which it almost never happens, but thanks guys for your ideas, anymore id love to hear, but i dont like to drive with my ebrake light on my dash, so thats not the greatest idea, that would annoy me even more, and taking off the dash to unplug it is also to much for me to do, i thought maybe there would be an easy trick to get rid of this annoying problem.but thanks to all for your help.

im almost thinking to get me a flashlight and tape it up so it shines right into the sensor's throat as long as im driving .
thats how much i don't like it.
