Datamaster not working...what am I missing?
Datamaster not working...what am I missing?
I've got one of the less expensive ALDL cables that I've been using to upload PCM tunes from madz28.com. The only software I use when I do that is C.A.T.S. Winflash and it has always worked with no problems. I assumed that I would also be able to use that cable with Datamaster but have not yet been able to get it to work. Is there something else I need in order to use Datamaster or should it be working? As a troubleshooting measure, I downloaded PCMComm and it worked fine.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: Datamaster not working...what am I missing?
i've tried both available com ports in datamaster (1&3 for my laptop) but neither seems to work. this is a brand new laptop with a serial port on the back that i have used with other serial hardware so i know it works. i have run the ALDL test program that gets installed with datamaster and it fails regardless on which com port or speed i set it to.
should this be working? someone told me that i am missing the most important element besides the cable which is some piece of hardware in between the laptop and pcm?

Re: Datamaster not working...what am I missing?
If you have an Infra-red IR port, turn it off or disable it. That will free more com ports.
If you are running Zone alarm or windows firewall you might want to shut it down also, they watch com ports.
If you have a mouse pluged in, pull it out and use the touch pad if you have one.
The hardware on the cable is only needed if you are using USB port. Serial port should not require anything.
Something is blocking your com port.
I run datmaster with USB without problems and Cats, free scan. So it is possible. But I have not used a serial cable since I don't have the serial ports only USB.
Good Luck
