Datamaster help

ok I cant get this cable to work for some reason... it found the drivers online and says it wont let me change my driver because the "most up to date" is currently installed. So when I run datamaster EE it gives me an error when I hit record, but displays nothing. When I get on freescan and hit start it reads ONLY RPM and that makes no sense to me. Any advice? The main problem is im running vista and I just got vista 2 days ago with my new laptop, so im learning everything again.

thanks for the help

Datamaster is for obd1 only, if your trying to use it on the car that's in your sig, it won't work.

sorry, I haven't updated my sig lately. I have OBD1 conversion from PCMforless and the ALDL cable (USB) from Andrew Mattei (forgot which company he was with). On freescan, the only way I can get it to even show the RPM is by running the lotus program. When I switch to the LT1 program it reads absolutely nothing. I am so confused.

I'm gonna tag along on this one. I just got my cable today. I'm also running vista and I can't get datamaster or freescan to work at all. I have a 95 T/A.

Have you tried searching in the computer/diagnostics forum? Threads of this nature are normally posted there.

FWIW, i have a cable and datamaster, and get an "overflow" error with datamaster on vista, I run it on my XP with no problem though. Vista is not really 100% compatible with datamaster or freescan.

Did you install it in "Compatability mode" on your Vista machine?

I've heard of the compatibility mode before, just never sure how to do it that way.

when using freescan, select the fbody on the drop down menu and in the upper right box click "force data" and interact.

Not sure why datamaster wouldnt be working. make sure you have the correct com port selected and also try to just monitor instead of record.

I use both of these programs on vista fwiw.

Also, are you 100% sure you have the correct cable? your 96 has an obd2 port. did you change that as well when you did the obd1 conversion? a cable for a 95 (obd2 style port but obd1 interface) would not work correctly on your obd2 port. 70% sure of this

DataMaster on Vista

I have DataMaster running on Vista for both for both of my ODB1 cars. I was having issues like this and had to have my RS232 cable reworked by Andy at AKM to make it work properly. I was using an eBay RS232-USB converter that did not work properly.

FWIW
