Dang it, what just happened?

So I was just working on pulling out my radiator, kind of randomly pulling off loses that looked like they need to go, and I come across this hard line this was held in by a bolt. "Hmmm" I thinks, so I unbolts the think and as I do gas and liquid starts shooting out all over the place. It was too cold for me to try and get the thing back in, so I opened the garage door and ran the hell away. Me thinks its something to do with the ac. So, I'm assuming by now most of its escaped, so, is this fixable or did I just give myself an excuse to remove the ac system?

You live in Florida, why in the hell would you want to remove the A/C?

Have a professional fix it for you. Don't turn on the A/C compressor until you get the system recharged/fixed.

Re: Dang it, what just happened?

no. now youll have to have the system vacuumed to remove all the moisture out of the system. a good shop should be able to do this for you and refill the freon.

Re: Dang it, what just happened?

I emptied my AC - borrowed vacuum pump from my brother and his lines and just recharged it myself. AC is nice and cold If you know someone with a pump it'll cost you next to nothing.

To have it professionally recharges usually runs from $60 to $100, depending on where you go and, depending on the shop, how much RC-134 you need.

Thanks for the good laugh, thinking of you running out of your garage.

Yeah, sounds like an AC line.

Fortunately our cars use a pressure switch to activate the A/C clutch, so unless there's ~42 PSI of pressure in the lines your A/C compressor will never turn on. My A/C system is empty at the moment since I just replaced the condensor, and I run defrost all the time without fear of the compressor turning on. However, if you only let out a little freon your compressor could short cycle, which is probably not the best thing for it. Sounds like you drained it all though. Doh!

Re: Dang it, what just happened?

I remember about a year ago I was working on the Z and I had to bend the a/c lines out the way a lil bit to make room for what I was working on. Apparently I forgot to bend them back so when I was test driving the car, I hear this hissing noise. I pull over and afraid to open the hood at first....holly-smokes the darn a/c line was all up on the Alternator and this thing is wizz'n a/c all over the place. Dont breathe that stuff in! I ran, just like you did. lol I still have to fix this thing..pfff

Re: Dang it, what just happened?

R 134 isnt that harmful. I emptied R12 from my VR4 when i had an accident. I was using the A/C pressure thing my dad had to freeze stuff while i emptied it. Lol. Don't breath in R12, you'll die or atleast get cancer, but i believe all 4th gens used R134 which can be bought at Wal-mart so you're safe.
