damn found a machine shop for cheap!

195 for
.30 bore/hone/cam bearings/recondition/clean the block/new plugs

they have good reputation from my buddy who got his whole motor done (1800 for everything including swapping the motor)

they said they'll be done in a day or two...

i asked him how the machines do the job, and he showed me how everything works and stuff

anyways, cheapest other place i found was 200 alone for boring lol

i'm just stoked i'm off to a good start

AHHH Sooooo Danielson, you be very much careful Danielson. Ahhhh you get what you pay for Danielson.

The preceding was a message from someone who paid dearly by using a cheap machine shop, now back to your regularly scheduled post, thank you.

Translation: I took my car to a shady shop once and it came back running like a civic. If it is cheap, the work is most likely cheap.

LOL. I think when making it one word like Danielson vs Daniel Son , it throws you off when you first read. It took me a second when I first saw it , because Danielson looks like someons last name.

I was thinking ... what the ...... when I first saw it, then I put 2 and 2 together when he started "spittin that Miaga knowledge", about getting what you pay for. LOL

Anyways I know it's Off topic, but funny.

Re: damn found a machine shop for cheap!

I agree with what others have said. Cheap and machine shop shouldnt be used in the same sentence. This isnt like exhaust work where worst case it rattles or looks like poop, this is the difference between thousands of trouble free miles or 10 miles then nothing.

I go to a machine shop called Wells Racing Motors, they do pro sprint car motors primarily, and I know that they charge more then the other shops. I also know that I will get it right the first time.

Do what you want, but when something goes wrong, think of the advice you turned down.

Best of luck,
James

Those are the best places to go through...guys that build 700 horse motors on a regular basis will do 1000000% better work then guys that do production motor machine work

we'll see... so far my friend seems to be happy bout his engine...

just cuz u find a shop that charges alot doesnt mean its good quality...

i wont get any buss if i open up a machine shop, and charge more then others.... reptuation is what is gunna get you bussiness.... these guys have been around for a while, and have done my friend's motor.... i wouldnt have gone to them if none of my friends have been to them...

my friend dropped his block off at a very 'good' and expensive machine shop.... they told him it'll be done in a week... its been 3 months and hes still waiting...

price is one factor of many... there are other things/factors u should look at...

Think of machine work, or any other work or service you have done as a triangle with QUALITY, PRICE, DELIVERY at the 3 corners. (Delivery means how fast you get it back.) A good motto is "You can choose any two, but not all three."

In other words, high quality work takes time and skilled technicians who are expensive to employ. Also, if the shop does great work for reasonable prices they should be so busy that the line to get things done is weeks long. The very top (and expensive) shops often have such large backlogs that you couldn't even get in line.

I agree that you don't always get what you pay for, but even more important, especially in precision machine work, you rarely get something you DON'T pay for. I've been in the precision machining business for almost 30 years, and have rarely seen that violated.

Good luck to you.

If you've already made up your mind, go for it, but consider the opinions of folks here who have been down that road.
