Angry Dam Noise!!

Ok I have no idea what the noise is now. The deal is I have a noise coming from what sounds like the area near the idler(sp?) pulley. I thought it might have been the power stearing pump so I replaced it. NOTHIN still got the noise. Then I replace the alternator thinking thats it. NOHTIN . I really dont know that else would make a loud noise like a worn bearing in that area around that specific pulley. Is there a bracket that connects to the pulley and to the power stearing pump that contains a bearing in it that can go out or could it be the pump they sold me was a doobie. . If anyone can help me out it would be very nice. Like I said it sounds like a worn bearing coming from around the idler pulley.

Help please!!!!

You didn't mention it but did you check the idler pulley itself?

Did you take the belt off to see if the noise goes away?

Sounds like it could be the a/c clutch pulley. The material starts wearing after a while and starts coming apart. It will be a loud annoying shrill that keeps getting worse. You should be able to see it shaking and there will also be a brown dust/residue all over the place.

take the belt off and start the car. is the noise gone?

if yes spin all the pullys by hand including the AC hub and clutch,

my guess is it's either the compressor, tentioner or idler pully

Taking the belt off doesnt hurt the car right? I always thought the pulley wouldnt make a big difference seeing its only the pulley. The A/C clutch assy. was another guess. I try all the suggested maybe ill hit something to make that anoooooyyying noise go away.

thanks to all for your feedback

I highly recommend that before you go replacing parts, get an automotive stethascope, and poke around to see where the noise is coming from.

I had my mechanic look at it an he said it might be the idler pulley or the alternator bracket. I dont know why the bracket would make a sound like that though.
