Re: Daily driver: Heads/Cam or STS turbo ???

Well, When I built my kit I used a weldon oil pump. It worked great. It was a little noisy, but never had a proplem. You can adjust the pressure setting. I dumped the oil back into the top of the valve cover. The kits are fairly easy to make, the only 2 things that are exspensive are the oil pump and turbo and some kinda boost controller, but everything is available used these days. My turbo in the rear was setup totally different then STS design. I was gonna patent it, but people can make them with a different oil return line and there would be nothing I can do about it. So now im just gonna keep making the front mount turbo setups. Once these are done then, it will be boost time agian.

Which way you go kinda depends what you are looking to get, and how much you can do yourself.

Heads/cam, and emissions legal, you will be lucky to gain 50-60 hp. Plus it will need tuning to get it to run right and pass emissions.

Turbo at 5-6 psi should gain right at 100 hp, and will also require some tuning. Regardless of what the "naysayers" say, the STS kit does work.

You could also get a S/C, if any are CARB certified.

One last thing to consider; it doesn't take long to unbolt that turbo, so you could always drop it and reinstall the stock exhaust come emissions time.

Drawback to any type of FI kit on a stock LT1 is the compression ratio and the stock pistons. They are just not at all boost friendly.

I wouldnt do any of it myself I dont think. I dont have the knowledge, tools, or desire to do it myself.... plus its a waste of my time (unless you enjoy doing it...).

any other opinions?

if you want a turbo car, i suggest you learn how to work on it. if not, itll be in the shop more then on the road. if you want to be a hands off kind of car owner, best stay all motor.
