Dad's 95 Z won't start...

Well my dad bought a mint 95 z28 in Feb. with only about 48k on it... It ran fine in early spring, only thing that ever acted strange was when I took it to WOT a couple times it would break up on the top end...

Well now he went out and all of a sudden it was really hard to start, the battery was somewhat low so he charged it and tried to start it again.

It started and he held the rpm up at 3k for a little bit then let it idle, it started idling rough and the ses light flashed on and off... Then it idled fine and he let it go for a while and went inside. He came back out and it had died...

Now it wont start at all, it will just crank and crank, but wont turn over. Sometimes it feels like it wants to start but just wont fire. You can smell raw gas coming out the exhaust as you crank it over so it is getting fuel.

What would be a list in order of what to check, could this be the opti, or just plugs? What should I check first then move on to...?

thanks guys!

these thing are notorious for the optispark going out, pull it out and see what the cap looks like.

Yes the opti may be bad but check all the basics first. Could be as simple as a bad coil wire. Also try holding the gas pedal to the floor and start it (flood mode).

Common failures include:
coil wire
coil
ignition fuse
fuel pump check valve
