Cylinder Head Porting
Cylinder Head Porting
I'd like to hear from members with direct experience with Cylinder Head Shops other than Lloyd or AI. No offense to either of these gentleman as they seem to have excellent reputations, but I believe in looking around too. Let me know of other good cylinder head shops.
Re: Cylinder Head Porting
I don't know how much work he's doing, but Joe Prince did my heads, and did a good job too. Took care of me when we found out the shop that did the valve job screwed it up (this was almost a year after the fact too). Flowed quite well considering the small intake runner volume, specs on my home page.
Re: Cylinder Head Porting
Yeah Joe Prince is a interesting guy.... he might have done a good job but.... That's all I'm going to say.
There are plenty of places that can port LT1 heads.... My thoughts on it are this:
1. A stock GM casting will have core shift and other issues with a as cast port that CNC machines can't do the ultimate job with. A CNC program has to be made to cleanup a total port to get the most repeatable port, not the best port that particular casting has in it..... A casting made for CNC ports OTOH can have awesome results on a CNC machine.
2. Why not go with the guys who have touched these castings the most.. There is a reason they give you the bang for the buck that you get, because they've seen it over and over again.
I've seen LT heads done by really good head porters out there and they are awesome work and make good power. Blackstone, TEA, Meaux.... to name a few GOOD ones, I've seen others but I don't bash people so they will remain nameless. A lot of these guys do awesome work but they also cost more in most cases so you have to do know if you need their expertise or not in your heads and you want to pay the cost.
