Is a cutout worth it???

Well Right now im running on gutted cats, and on a flowmaster exhaust. If i put in a cutout will i see any improvements? since i already dont have a catalytic converter and flowmaster?

I trapped .1mph less with the cutout OPEN, and had a worse 60' from the loss in low end torque which resulted in a slower ET.

I gained 1.5 mph and cut .1 off my 1/4 time... not bad for $35. Believe they used to be called "cheaters" or "cheater pipes" back in the day.

Re: Is a cutout worth it???

I think the loss of low end torque is somewhat of a myth. I actually think when people lose a little bit on their track times it's due to coincidental change in conditions for the worse mixed with a little bit of added hp ie loss of traction resulting in the loss. When I had just an open Y pipe on my car I felt I lost a little bit vs my catback on the low end but realized it was mainly because I wasn't giving the car nearly as much gas to get up to speed as with the catback now. The car would just get too loud and as a result I wasn't giving it nearly as much throttle before I heard the exhaust like I do now. I don't remember anyone ever showing a dyno proving they lost anything doing back to back results with open vs closed. I think everyone I've seen has resulted in a gain of some sort. As said for $35 bucks you can't go wrong, if it results in a loss just keep it closed all the time.

I dynoed 13rwhp higher with my cutout open then I did threw my guttec cat and flowmaster, back when my car was just a bolt on car.

Re: Is a cutout worth it???

everytime i cap it, it feels alot quicker off the line... but, tends to feel likes it not pulling as hard up top...

with the cutout open, it feels a little more sluggish at first, but after 3000 rpms it pulls hard....

the car feels totally different with it open compared to close... hard to explain, but it feels so different... i love it with it open, ive capped it twice since ive had mine, once for smog, and once for my gf at the time so she didnt get a headache

I think alot of guys gain around 8 to 10 RWHP with them so for $27 yes it is worth it.

yes, it's worth it.. I recently got rid of mine because I went true dual, but I would deffinately o with a cutout setup above catback setup any day of the week.

Re: Is a cutout worth it???

Cant tell a difference with mine open or closed, but it sure feels a little faster, but its also 10 times louder, so im sure thats some of it. For the noise factor though, its the best $30 I've ever spent on my car. I love the sound. Hopefully getting a dyno tune friday or next week at CAM, and I'll post some closed/open graphs
