Cut out question.. (just got one)

alright i just got a cut out and like it..

1st impression.. was something like this..
1st sprayed some water on it to cool it down.. then up capped it.. started it up and it sounded pretty good then i went to back out.. not pressing the throttle any.. then put it into drive and pressed the gas me---> Is my car falling apart!!.. but i still love this thing just a lil worried about cops cuz i pass the police station ever time i go to work.. hehehe

now for my concerns!!!!

1. Owner(of shop): you sure you want to put that thing on..
Me: .... umm yea..?
Owner: i know where you have to put those are right under the passanger seat cabin..
Me: yea.....
Owner: you might risk the chance of setting your floorboard on fire.. cuz it gets pretty hot under there.. and i know alot of guess have gotten away with it.. but..
Me: (knowing i been waiting a month and spent 40 bucks on a peice of metal..) said yes..

now question is what is this about..? does anyone know anything about the floorboard catching on fire? all i thought was that the passenger back seat got hot.

2. 2nd should i get a howling when driving like the exhaust is howling??? kinda like a whistle..

3. What are the other parts for when you get the cut outs theres like another metal ring thing and another cardboard kinda thing..? how do you uncap it like i know how but the right way do you leave that other cardboard type thing on there ( i think that might be causing the howling.. cuz i took the cardboard thing off to)

I just took it all off and put the lil screws in my car along with the plate and the cardboard. and put em in my car

and btw i left the other metal thing and cardboard thing at the shop i didnt needs those did i cause they didn't give them back.

Thanks.

I thought the floorboard was metal

I drove the whole summer with my cutout off, no problems; even passed many a cop cars, and not once got pulled over.

The only thing I regret about it is that it sounds like **** below 2500 rpms, and the fact that my car was SOLID as a rock before I put it on, now it rattles alot. I guess all the interior panels got loosened

I have a flowtech cutout (ceramic coated) and I never received the metal ring you are talking about; the only thing I got with it was the cardboard gasket, which became paper pulp after a while...its better to take it off when the cutout is open.

On a sidenote, I just sold my Flowbastard to a buddy, and took it (with the cutout) off the car, and reinstalled the stock exhaust until my Hooker comes in. The car actually feels faster without the cutout, because it's so quiet. Also, I've saved some $$ because I don't beat on it as much

Your mechanic is on crack. It can't set anything on fire.

This is more likely your rear differential whining, not the exhaust. If your gears are worn, they will whine on decel, cruise, accel, or a mixture of the three.

That's the cover plate and gasket, used for when you'd want to cap it. Don't leave the gasket on the cutout. Should be bare metal when it's uncapped.

...and what "other metal thing?"

the other metal thing was like the same shape as the cardboard gasket thing but it was metal..

and what can i do about that whinning cuz i would never get it before i upcaped it and the howl sounds like its coming from the cut out its self and only happens for a short time like between 2k rpms and i only noticed that at like 50 mph or so.. though i have only driven it less then 30 mins with a cut out upcapped total..

And when my car does start to rattle will i be able to tighten it back up or what.. cuz thats something i dont want lol

I guess the other metal thing is either the metal gasket (mine came with a metal and paper gasket), or the tubular elbow for tightening or removing the wing nuts that hold the cover on. As far as howling, I doubt it's the cutout. Unless you've got really picky cops, don't worry about it. I pass cops all the time (many times full throttle) and not one has said a thing. Then again, my cutout is tilted to the right (for ground clearance), so not all the sound is directed to the left lanes.

I hated my cutout, but I also had headers and no cats. It was super loud and not in a good way.

get an electric cutout plate. then you can open and close it with the flip of a switch. bought mine a few months back and finaly got around to putting it on a few weeks ago and I love it. can go from full quiet(stock exhaust) to open cutout in like 3 seconds. here are some places that sell them

and the one I bought in a group purchase.
