custom engine lifting bracket, check it out!

So I finally got to the point in which I am ready to put the motor back in the car. Suddenly I realized I id not have a good way of lifting it and dropping it in without scratching or denting something... so I made this... what do you think?

dont mind the wleds... they are not the prettiest but they get the job done. I am still teaching myself to weld better. Using a small LE weld pack 100 wire welder.

I think it will allow me to put the motor in from the top pretty easy...

I like it but try to get it to tie into the block if you can as well (or both holes on the heads). and be sure to test it before lifting the engine high enough to drop in!!

yeah the welds are strong enough by far. I got really good penetration but there is a bit of splatter.

Thhose bolt holes are 3/8" so they are plenty strong enough especially pulling up like that. The bolt would have to break for it to not hold.

I'll let ya know how it works out. I just hope it cleares the cowl. It should but you never know. I made this all from scraps I had laying around the garage.

The pieces to the head are 1/8" flat stock and the cross bar is 1/4" flat. I made the corner braces and the loop from 1/4" round bar.

what oil pan do you have?
I tried a few things like that putting mine in...wouldn't work...my valve covers hit the cowl cause the oil pan is so tall...its 8 1/4" and moroso valve covers.

I have to remove my intake and run a chain across as tight as I can.....it barely fits

If you have a stock pan I think they are 7"

I think we both have the spohn k-member....that helps alot going in from the top

Are those smith's motor mounts? aluminum?

What alt. bracket you running also? looks like mine

That motor looks awesome. Nice job, I'm sure that'll be plenty strong enough to work. The only thing is why would someone put their motor in through the top? when the bottom is so much easier.

Canton 242T pan. I was not planning on trying it with the covers on. I'll probably take the alternator off also. Oh and the headers too

Yeah its a Spohn K member and the mounts are Madman solid mounts (chromoly)

The alternator bracket is the SJM piece. Its ok but honestly I am not impressed with it. Too flimsy. I threw the belt once before. It has a tendency to flex forward as the motor tq's up and the belt wants to walk forward across the ribs. I made a bracket on the back now to keep the alternator in place. Again not the prettiest but it gets the job done.

I am hoping the bracket is just low enough to fit under the cowl. It shoud but I guess I really wont know till I try it. If it doesnt work I will make something else. Plenty of room in the engine bay though

thanks. I spent alot of time just cleaning up the dirty stuff. Even if I was putting a stock part back on I polished it or painted it. I hope it runs as good as it looks. Looking for 550-600 hp n/a.

And to answer you question... cause I'm an idiot and already put the rest of the car together. I wanted to keep working on the car even though other parts of the project were on hold for one reason or another so I put the K member and suspension back in. It has alot of new stuff so it was all torn apart into a million pieces. Engine in the bottom is ok when you have a K member and complete front end to put it on. I did not at the time. Now its all done and the motor is still on the stand

Pretty clever idea. Would that have an advantage over the Happy Hooker piece?

I did my alt. the same way with the baracket on the back...I made my own, cut it out of stainless.....the belt flies off all the time, Your set-up looks good.....looks just like mine but all mine is black.

Nice ...should run good with those heads on it

Does the belt still fly off with the bracket on there holding it straight?

I hope runs good with these heads. There is a ton into them. They are far from a basic TFS head. 2.08/1.60 valves, 220cc intake runners, 63cc chambers and flowed 317 @ .700. Its mated up with a custom Cam Motion SR and Jessel shaft mounts.

yeah my belt still flys off around 6500 7k....the 5 ribs last a bit longer the 6 rib doesen't.....i've tried all sorts of stuff, If you figure something out let me know....the way mine is set up I use a 35 1/2" belt.....I have considered spacing it out more and running some deep V belt pulleys
