Custom cold air intake with Z06 MAF sensor

Hey guys just curious what size this MAF is (stock LT1 is 3 inches) if and when I decide to make a CAI I know what size pipe to use or I can go ahead and plan it out. BTW what do most of you use for it, I was thinking of a 4 inch or 3.5 minimum inner diameter pipe of some sort with atleast 2 conical filters in the fender. I dont like the idea of PVC so maybe some rubber tubing or similar from somewhere? Got ram air now but its a pain to take apart and have reseal, I had to wrap duct tape around the rubber seal for the maf and air box since it was too small, its a strait path but I figure a MUCH larger path like a 3.5 or 4 inch pipe would more than make up for any bend plus 2 conical filters of the same size as the one on the end of most CAI's would be less restrictive than the filter on the ram air too plus the ram air box wont accept a Z06 maf... soooo I think ill entertain myself for a bit and try and make this but like I said I would like some suggestions and info

Uhm,

What RA airbox are you using?

I've been running a Z06 MAF on my car with ZERO issues for 2 years. W/O the use of tape anywheres in the intake track. (Cut a fernco in 1/2, so it's 1.2 the length, soak it in hot water for ~1-2 minutes, then stretch it over the MAF and Airbox; mine had the exact OD of 4")

I even believe there is a picture or 2 on my website of the setup.

Plus, Depending on what RA setup you are using, how can it be MORE restrictive than a CAI? if I take my air filter out of my car and close the hood, I can look in the nostrils and see my TB blades.

Re: Custom cold air intake with Z06 MAF sensor

I have the suncoast creations RA box and the maf slips inside the box and seals with a rubber ring and a hose clamp then I use a fernco rubber tube that I heated in hot water thats 3" inner dia. and slipped that over one end of the maf and then over the tb... Im saying more filter area and a larger tube would allow a z06 maf and all in all probably be less restrictive especially for a heads and cam car or stroker or what ever, im not too sure just because its a strait shot its that much more free flowing. Not sure how what I have differs from what you have but mine certainly wont accept anything larger, BTW how large is the z06 maf? I guess the z06 wouldnt fit in your box so you stretched a fernco over the outside of both?

Exactly...

I have the MAF butted directly to the Airbox, then the 1/2 Fernco slips over both. The Z06 MAF has a VERY long exit side, and I can run a full Fernco coupler between the MAF and the TB, and everything lines up perfectly.

The only modification needed (Besided cutting down the Fernco) was to remove an alignment tab on the Z06 MAF itself, it let me slide the MAF into the MAF to TB Coupler another 3/8", just enough room to butt the airbox MAF together.

Check out the fisrt picture on page 5 of my website

Hey yeah I did see that, I dont know why I didnt think of that! Thanks a lot man! But hey I was wondering if you ordered the maf from the dealer or what and if it has the same connector as the stock maf or you need to splice in a new pigtail or something. Also do you happen to have those maf calibration tables, I have tunercat and such....

The MAF I got from GM Parts direct, but I'm betting Jason or Dal will have a better price.

The Pigtail I got from Ramchargers, call and ask for Kevin, tell him what you're doing and he knows exactly what you need.

The MAF table is posted on my "other" website, if you do a search for the Z06 MAF, I'm sure you will find the thread where I posted the link to the excel file.

Good luck, and keep me posted on how things turn out.
