Custom Cam info needed

I am looking into purchasing a custom cam for my LT1 - the cam specs are the same as the GM846 but it will be set on a 115lsa. When I called about the cam I inquired about the additional parts required to do the job correctly and the guy said I would have to get different pushrods as the standard sized LT1 pushrods would not fit properly (length) and that I would need a longer lifter to accomodate the camshaft. I'm not disagreeing I just don't understand why I will need special pushrods and lifters vs the standard sized stuff. I know I will need some better valvesprings that can handle the higher lift its just the pushrods and the lifters that I am confused with. Thanks

If you are going from a stock cam to a custom cam with specs near a 846, you should be using a "cam guy" who does that for a living. There are a few here on the board. However, the "cam guy" might want to design you a cam that will fit your application rather than sell you a "GM846 on a 115". He'll also specify what other parts you'll need to make it work properly. The stock stuff won't work. If springs weren't mentioned, they should have been.

If you aren't inclined to follow advice like that, go back to the cam manufacturer of your choice and do what they suggest, because the "cam guy" probably won't work with you.

There are lots of threads about choosing a cam. Read a bunch of them.

Good luck!
