Question Custom cam HELP!!!

Right to the point i NO nothing about cams, lobes, lift and so on...

I want the most HP/TQ i can get out of my set up..I would like to have the X grinds mybe on a 110 and spin the eng to 6500 peak around here and the spring to match it on a LT1 ported head...

head flow numbers

The sheet I have is of the roughed in #'s, which are going to be about 1-1.5% lower than the finished #'s typically. There'll usually be a 1-2% variance bench to bench anyhow though, so it shouldn't make much difference...

Int/Exh
.100 64.9/49.9
.200 133.4/104
.300 191.4/141
.400 232/165
.500 260.3/180
.550 266.1/186
.600 270.1/189

Right now i have the GM847 with these heads....would like to bring up my TQ 20-30 rw same with HP.....

Phil @ Ai said the Xe 242/248 cam But the rpm is 6100 would like to go to 6500...

Have talked to Bret still in works
Nighttrain...who is doing his cams now...

thx

I just took out my GM847, GREAT cam, my TQ was pretty darn good but hey I've had this custom cam sitting here for ages so I finally descided to take a perfectly good running car & rip it apart yet again, I must say, this will be the 4th cam this car has had LOL. I'm also hoping to bring the TQ up a bit & the HP aswell, my numbers are in sig with GM847, I'm sad to see it go, I used to have a XE236/242 & my GM847 made more TQ & HP everywhere even down low.

Remember you shift 200-400 after peak power (depending on how steep the drop off is), not at it. if a cam peaks at 6100 shifting at 6500 with good heads is ideal. that way you stay in the thickest part of your powerband.

What kind of power are you making now with the GM847? Who did your heads? To extract the most power from your combo a custom cam to match your heads is in order. Talk to your head porter and have him match something up. Many members here have had good results with Joe O, Phil, Lloyd Elliot and just recently Bret. Get in touch with all of them and then pick who you feel most comfortable with and go from there. Everyone's combination is different so be clear what your goals are.

Good Luck!
