isn't it just for an "idiot light" to confirm the pump is working?

in case it decides to die on you you can tell by poping the hood and checking the little light?

Yep that is what it's for to keep an eye on wether or not your pump is working. I didn't put one on mine b/c I keep close watch on the gauges anyways. But my pump has gone out on me already and it sucks. Later Clint

I didnt use a diod or swithc on my CSI, and it has been great for 2 years. I just have mine set to come on with the key in the ACY position, and with the car running. The switch is optional as is the diod, good luck!

the diode is for the switch, so that if you want to run the pump with the car off you can without supplying power to the ignition curcuit.

Switch might not be a bad idea, if you need to fill your block up, if ever drained.
