Critique my upgrade list

Alright, before anybody tells me anything, this car is my only car, although i am not driving it much. Goals for this car is 400RWHP.
It is a 1994 z28 t-top A4.
B&m Shift Kit
3000 Stall

Intake

Headers
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Exhaust
http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...827HKR&FROM=MG

Cam
http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...-306-8&FROM=MG (am thinking about a smaller cam)

I'll also be adding in some 3:73 gears
What else am I going to need to achieve my goal? I'll also have some fuel system upgrades (high flow fuel pump, injectors, etc).
Is there anything you would change? I think the main thing people would change would be the cam, but
Critique away!

Re: Critique my upgrade list

I don't have enough wisdom to offer legitamit feedback. I'm looking to do some similiar mods. Have you researched this set to see if they are all compatible. About the cam...did somebody say that was the best cam profile to match the pacesetter headers. And, will the catback system align with the long tube headers? I know these may be dumb questions, but I'm new to this stuff. I just don't want to assume you can mix and match products and expect them to work together in harmony.

Re: Critique my upgrade list

i havent completely researched everything, I am new to LT1s and crap. I used to have a L98 iroc but everything was done to it when i bought it. Since then i have only owned hondas and done a lot of work on hondas. Im just used to hondas where everything will mix and match and work in harmony. This is why i am asking hehe

Have you thought of going this route? There is not need to change everything and there is alot more room to make insane HP!

With the parts you already have listed you are over 1200 and still not moking 400 rwhp.

Long tubes and better exhaust and better air are the basics

next should be heads and cam - your proposed cam is to big for stock air and you should do some research into getting some ported heads and a cam to match along with the change in springs and valvetrain as required.

fuel pump, injectors are not yet required.

Also look into using used from this site or off ebay - lots of good deals out there.

you don't mention mileage - if over 100K i'd refresh the engine first as well look for tires and a 12 bolt if you eventually reach your goals.

Re: Critique my upgrade list

i dont have 4k to drop at a time though. Being a poor highschool student (thats right, I'm in highschool, but I do know quite a bit about cars), I'll be slowly upgrading. Id expect i'd be about 370 or so w/ all that, might be wrong though since I'm not a genious. I used to have a FD3 rx7 and i wasnt fond of the turbos, also turbod my honda and it was a PITA. Id prefer to stay N/A.

Oh, the car has 141k on the body, but the motor was rebuilt approx 26k ago. Has brand new tires on it

BPS - what would you recommend for a cam? Should I go w/a LT4 hotcam for now, or a comp xtreme like 230/236 or something like that? Like i said, i havent looked too much into anything yet, just getting ideas for now

lots of folks including myself have done a hot cam early on in our modding days only to upgrade at a later date. My recommendation is to wait on cam and heads till you have the $$ to do both and have a better idea of your goals and needs. You will also learn from reading that many folks put in a cam that is to large and then complain about the lack of power since it's all coming in at 5000+ rpms and they rarley drive there.

the proper order is to get a good set of heads - flow them and then match up the cam with the flow of the heads and the power band that your looking to improve and of course have that matched to your stall and gears.

if you do a hot cam now - I guarantee that if you keep the car a few years you will swap cams again.

my $.02

Re: Critique my upgrade list

2 put down 400 rwhp thru an a4, you are going to have to have some real good heads, and a big cam, and you may still strugle to put down 400. you would be better off going the bolt-on route (headers, gears, ewp, roller rockers etc), and save your money for a heads/cam combo from LE, or AI in the future. If you are going to do it, you need to have the money to do so, and not cut corners

Re: Critique my upgrade list

alright guys, thanks a lot. Thats kind of what i thought. I figured intake, headers, exhaust, gears then start working on the main power stuff. I will be adding N20 later on too (have 2 bottles in the garage out of my honda)

Re: Critique my upgrade list

the best mod on your list is the headers, y pipe, and catback
the LT1 fbody has very restrictive manifolds and exhaust.
this is the one thing that will REALLY wake this car up!
next one I would do is 1.6 rockers and lt4 springs.
as for intake, home depot is your friend
on of the last things i would do is the cam, because then you will need to get the computer reprogrammed to run at its best.
as for cam i would go a little more consrvative.
just my 2cents.
good luck.

Re: Critique my upgrade list

Thanks a lot guys. Im used to honda's where everything just goes in and all works together. Never had to worry about cam sizes or anything. I want a pretty agressive cam, Ive determined that. My friend has a 96 Z28 M6 with a LT4 hot cam, its quick, but I want more. My honda has 404RWHP which put me into low 11's on slicks. I know the z28 wont get that far off of this stuff, and that it'd take a lot to get it there. I'm hoping for low 13s, but would absolutely love anything in the 12s.

1racerdude - what do you mean too much spread? What should I look for in a cam? I found a lunati cam that my friend says would be great, but he doesnt have a camaro, and im sure he doesnt know what i'd all need. Here it is http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

those 3 my friend said would be nice. I'm not sure how well they would work with everything else and what not, so, what do you guys think?

SamPace- I really thought about that and makinga custom-ram air that scoops air in from the bottom. We did that on my friends grand-national and it works fine

Re: Critique my upgrade list
