I started my car and I noticed the air bag light was on. Then I heard this loud noise that I havent heard before. I shut the car off right away (it was running for maybe 15 seconds). The car is off and this noise is still going on. A loud buzzing noise, sounded like it was coming from the back of the engine. Thought maybe it was the fans at first. After about 3 minutes, the noise still going, Smoke starts to come out on the left back side of the engine. Im thinking this isnt good. I decided then to disconnect the battery. Once i did that, the noise stopped immediately. What can it be?

The smoke was white. It was coming from the back of the engine towards the passenger side. Smelled like something electrical was burning. I haven't restarted it yet.

That's the area where your starter is located. If I had to wager a SWAG; I'd say it may not start the next time. You might get lucky and it's only a shorted positive starter cable to ground, but that wouldn't explain the 'loud noise'. I'd trace the cable out first, then see what happens when you connect the battery back up for a few seconds.

Just put in a new starter and all is well.
