Crankshaft seal

Hey Guys
Help me out please. I have a 1993 LT1. Within the last year I replaced two CS seals on this vehicle. It still continues to leak from that seal. What gives here? Is this a common problem with the older cars? Or could my Crankshaft be nicked ?

I assume you mean the round seal on the front. The biggest difficulty is installing it flat and square. If you bend the seal at all, chances are it is going to leak.

Ok lets assume that it is installed correctly. Not that I am incapable of making a mistake Basically what I want to know is thier a trend history in the LT1 with this type of problem? And if so is thier any after market fix for it? Thank you very much for replying.

I don't know that there is a "history" of problems with this seal. My original never leaked and the replacement I put in during a cam instal has not leaked either. If your hub has a bad groove in it, that may cause it to leak.

I am thinking that I may have nicked the crankshaft itself when I replaced the timing chain. Could that also be the culprit?

Thank you again for replying

The seal doesn't run on the crank, it runs on the hub..
Maybe try pulling the hub [the balancer bolts to it] and inspect it[maybe polish it with fine emery paper where the seal runs..]
Also inspect/change the seal..

And as an added thought, are you SURE it's the crankshaft seal?
There is a history of the water pump drive seal leaking on these cars, and it's hard to get a replacement just 'right'..
It could be that also..
you can change all 3 seals without removing the timing cover also..

If it is the crank seal I know that on the older crank hubs over time a groove developed in the surface where the seal runs. Eventually the groove gets deep enough where the seal does not maintain a tight enough seal or the groove gets rough and chews up seals quickly. Installing a new seal would work for a short period of time than starts leaking oil again.

You can buy a speedi sleeve to go over the hub which is a new surface for the seal to run on. I know they are less than $10 in Canada.
