Crank sensor?

I was getting my knock sensor swapped out last night, and my friend saw that there's an unhooked up sensor near the crankshaft. Is that the 'crank sensor'? I tried searching the forums and found a little help from shoebox saying that the crank sensor was for misfire detection. Do I need to hook it up, or is it ok unhooked?

Background info on the car: 94 z28 exhaust/computer/body with a 96 engine swap so some of the sensors might be OBDI and some might be OBDII. (which is why I changed the knock sensor) Is the crank sensor only used in OBDII, because there doesn't seem to be a cable to plug in?

Re: Crank sensor?

The crank sensor is OBD-II only.

Re: Crank sensor?

The 94 does not have a crank position sensor. They were added in 96 to the OBD-II cars for misfire detection. There is no misfire detection in a 94/95 OBD-I. Leave it unhooked.
