crank hub problem

Alright, I finally got my engine in and the hub doesn't go on all the way, meaning the pulley doesn't align with the acc's. I have a double roller timing chain and a key on the crank, the hub has been keyed to slide on the crank. Now, I am not sure if the hub is for a 96, but my car is a 96. This still shouldn't happen, correct? I thought if anything it will be shorter. Any thoughts would help. Oh yeah, probably doesn't mean anything but it is a lunati crank. Thanks.

What do you mean it doesn't go on all the way? How do you know? Also, what are you using to install the hub onto the crank? I personally think a long peice of all thread is the safest way. Don't beat the hub on with a big hammer, thats a good way to break a crank. I couldn't use my snap on balancer installer because the hole in the hub won't let the bolt through, thats why I use all thread. As you are pulling the hub on, tap it with a hammer, then tighten it again, then tap it. Hit it in different places with the hammer, this relieves the tension and helps it line up as its going on.

Hope this helps

Anyone ever have this problem? Thanks for the reply, it doesn't line up when the belt is installed.

The hub length is different between a 93-95 and a 96-97. The 96-97 hubs are shorter as there's a reluctor gear inside the timing chain cover used for crank position sensing. You may be trying to install the longer 93-95 hub on your 96!

the crank position reluctor was not left on the crank was it?

also, did you have a local machine shop key your hub?

if so are the keyways machined properly?

if you got it from a place like thunder racing...... or you sent it somewhere, are you 100% sure they sent you back your 96 hub?

Fluidampr saves the BS..

A local machine shop did the keyway. I might save myself the trouble and go with a fuidamper but how will that work if 95 and 96 are two different sizes, wont I run into the same problem? Thanks.

Fluidampr is one size fits all..... comes with a spacer to take the place of the crank sensor reluctor.

i want to say depending on the timing set you purchase the crank gear is the same width as a stock gear. just uses smaller links for the double roller.
