Crank bolt issue

Hey all....I got my ati ballancer and hub on my dragon slayer crank and its pressed on pretty good, roughly 1/4" from the opti between opti and balancer. I put the ARP Crank bolt PN 134-2501, its supposed to be for our cars....i torque her down to 70 ft lbs, but the problem is the washer can free spin..which leads me to belive that the head of the bolt isn't pushing down on the washer agianst the hub. Is this the wrong bolt? I put the stock bolt back in and torqued it down, and its fine..washer is secure and all...Here is a comparison between the 2 bolts....the black one is the arp and the zinc colored one is the stock grade 8 crank bolt....

Any ideas? Should I just use the stocker for my 383/n2o motor?

Thinking about it, hope i didn't force the hub on to much and crush its way in to far...by far, i mean like 1/8 inch to far

Re: Crank bolt issue

I guess you would have to compare the ATI balancer to the stock hub to see if the measurements are the same for the part that slides over the crank snout. You could easily measure the depth of the hole to the outside of the installed balancer to see if the bolt is too long.

In the end, i guess this bolt from ARP wont work with the ati ballancer and dragonslayer crank from callies i assume.....Guess I am just going to go with the stock grade 8 bolt....

Re: Crank bolt issue

Did you use the stock spacer under the bolt head? My builder used the stock bolt, but forgot the spacer and cranked it down...ended up slightly mushrooming the end of the bolt and nearly took out the threads in my crank when we removed it. Fortunately, it cleaned up nicely with a thread chaser.

Re: Crank bolt issue

double check all your part numbers....sounds like you might have picked up the wrong bolt from ARP. yeah i wouldn't worry about using the Stock bolt. it works just fine.

Re: Crank bolt issue

Well, I called ARP and spoke to one of their senior techs and he said he has NEVER run into this issue, and he has been there since the 80's. He said that people are always looking for longer ones, not shorter ones...VERY weird...guess I'll just use the stocker with some red loctite. Wierd cus my friend is running the same bolt just fine on his eagle crank and ati balancer.
