Could these be linked?

When driving the car and cruising in 5th gear it seems to drive rough. The other night when I was cruising in 5th the ses light came on. The last time the light came on it was the 02 sensor...I replaced it, but i'm wondering if the headers messed this one up. Is it possible that the 02 sensor is making my car run rough in only 5th gear? I didn't know how the computer works with stuff like this...

Are you saying you don't have that roughness in 6th gear? Any time you have a miss or roughness, you will feel it more in higher gears.

Re: Could these be linked?

I don't really notice it in 6th gear. It doesn't feel like a miss, though the car does have a slight shake to it. It seems to come and go, and it only does it when it has been warmed up for a few minutes. Doesn't "feel" like there is any power loss though...but that's just the butt dyno talking.

Someone once told me that after about 5 minutes is when the 02's will start to work, I don't know if that's true or not though...

Just wanted to go here before making my way to the drivetrain forums...start with the cheapest fix and work my way up. It doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but i would like to find out what it is.

I beleive your right about the 02 sensor thing. It dosn't use the readings off of it until it goes into closed loop(?).

Try the same RPM in different gears and see if it does the same thing.

Re: Could these be linked?

nope, only in 5th gear...you really notice it then because that's when all the plastics start to vibrate So I guess the 02's is my first start...i'll see if I can get it scanned this weekend and see what code came up.

Where exactly does the 02 plug into(after the harness on the 02). Because it may be possible that it may have gotten burnt as well.

Re: Could these be linked?

well after driving it quite a bit more, I do actually notice it in all gears. Seems to only do it in closed loop though...i'll go ahead and change 02's tomorrow and hope that it helps.

Does anything else happen when it goes to closed loop that may cause this?
