Could my A4 be starting to go?

It dosen't hapen all the time, but sometmes with the trans perf on at the top of first gear it seams to have a funny rev and not shift like it's supposed to. I know that my seal of the drive shaft that goes into the tranny is starting to leak, but it's full of trans oil (I check it regularly).

Any ideas?

How many miles are on the tranny? Mine started doing the same thing at around 75K miles...the clutches were worn to the point where they were having a hard time grabbing under high RPM shifts, especially the 1-2 shift. I'd say it's probably time to start saving for a rebuild.

Yep, that's about the mileage that I have. Thought a tranny would last longuer though? Does the same apply for the engine?
(the care is bone stock)

Trannys don't seem to last too long in our cars, even in stock form. My car was bone stock (with the exception of a K&N filter) when my tranny died. My tranny guy told me to expect 60-70K out of a 4L60E with a stock rebuild. Mine has been fairly built up, but I'm only expecting 40K miles out of it...at that point I'll have to replace the clutches again.

As far as the engine goes, it should last much longer than the tranny. There are guys on here that have 150K+ miles on their engines and they're still going strong. I wasn't so lucky...mine crapped out at 101K due to numerous issues (engine was overheated when the water pump died, oil pump crapped out, etc). Those issues could have been avoided with proper maintenance though...I had the warning signs but I attempted to ride it out for as long as possible. It was a very expensive lesson.

Sounds like the clutches are starting to go inside the trans. Time for a rebuild. The same thing starts to happen to manuals when its clutch time.

Not sure if they do rebuilds, on older cars. Tthey wouldnt touch the trans on the 88' caprice when i had it. They did offer me a new factory trans for 1600.00 plus install and tax on both.

must be alot. I can get it done for about 950$, but I still see that as alot of money for something that should last longuer. (Especially since in the last couples of month I've pu 2000$ worth of repair on the car!!)
