Could a backfire bend a pushrod or mess up a lifter?
Could a backfire bend a pushrod or mess up a lifter?
The Delteq setup I got from anther board member was sent with every last coil being labeled completly wrong.
This cause 2 huge backfires. Now that it is running I am getting a clack from the valve train, just wondering since the comp 'r's are brand new as well as the hardnend pushrods. I am going to try to get them quiet by adjusting them with the car running but I am trying to rule out this possiblity.
If you want to hear the backfires search my name for other post and listen to the first start up video I posted.
Thanks,
James

A backfire itself shouldn't mess up a lifter or pushrod. But in my friend's case today he was running open headers and backfired. His car caught on fire and now it's totalled
Re: Could a backfire bend a pushrod or mess up a lifter?
when my car was on the dyno, the pin slipped out of the opti and massively screwed up the timing. At about 5200 rpm she backfired and bent two pushrods. I'm sure my case is just a freak accident, but needless to say it made a massive 190rwhp
. Moral of the story is to always double check to make sure the pin is securely in the opti!!

Are you sure you didn't blow out a header gasket? The reason I ask, is because a exhaust leak sounds just like a click or tick from the valvetrain.
