cost of rebuild

well i think im doing the t56 swap since my 700r4 is on its way... and i figure while its all apart i should have the 120,000 mile short block freshened up a little, and mabe through a new valvetrane and small cam in there.
i was just wondering what a good price for just a rebuild of a stock short block with new rings/berrings and everything would be, what did u all pay for your rebuilds? i know its impossible to know what each shop would charge, but i just want to know what an acceptable price would be so i have something to go by when i talk to some machine shops. I just need to know what my budget needs to b like b4 i start this project so i can save up for it. thanks

Re: cost of rebuild

Most people end up spending more than they were going to. Once you have everything apart it's like I mind as well do H/c while it's apart, along with rr's etc. It's a never ending list I mind as well do this while it's apart.

Re: cost of rebuild

yea lol thats why i am going to get all the parts i need before i start so i dont run out of money, it started out as just the transmition but i dont see the point of putting it in with a motor that is at the end of its life span, it runs fine but just kind of preventitive mantinence so i dont have to take it apart twice. i wanted to do a cam and i heard that sometimes higher milage motors+new cam can equal a spun bearing, so i might as well do it all at once

Depending on what you want to do with your car I would get a rebuild kit, mild cam and freshen up the heads and leave everything else stock.

Re: cost of rebuild

Well i was going to do a stock rebuild and ended up with with a Forged 357 nitrous motor so who knows.. lol Kindof like i was originally going to do a hotcam and ended up with ported heads and a 306. One thing just kindof leads to another, it is viscious never ending cycle!
