Correct way to install starter..

Is there a wrong or correct way to reinstall the starter or do you just have to line it up and bolt it in?

This is what you want to achieve. Use shims if needed.
Now, what do most people do? They slap it on and hope for the best. Most of the time, that is good enough, as long as you don't have any grinding or engagement problems.

I nver understood that. If it came from the factory without shims, seems like yo could put it back on without shims?? The haynes manual says to use shims but never says why. Glad you cleard that up for me shoebox

Just make sure your power wire is not making contact to your ground wire on the solenoid. If not, it will try to crank when trying to connect the battery.

I've just bolted mine up on my F-Bods with no problems

96ZRDR, if you could shorten up your sig, it would be appreciated! If you can get it down to around 5 lines it would be even better

Some people use tinier fonts to help. Actually, the forum rules are maximum 5 lines.

Thanks!

What you can do is sign up for a FREE camaroz28.com web page or reader's rides page, display all your mods there and some pictures, then put a link to that page in your sig.

I used a small paper clip to gauge the clearance. Worked great!

My stock one had no shims so I reinstalled the replacement without shims and haven't had a problem.
