Cooling questions

Okay, so I flushed and bled the cooling system and replaced with distilled water and dex (no I don't want a debate on green vs. orange ). I also, finally, changed to a 160 thermo and wired up a fan switch according to this page

http://users.oco.net/xero/fanmod/

I have a couple questions though..

1. it seems like I didn't get all the water out of the block (I only removed the coolant temp sensor and the knock sensor) So.. I only managed to get 1 gallon of antifreeze in there and two gallons or so of water.. the other gallon of dex cool is sitting on the work bench but there's no where for it to go. Is is a bad idea to run less than a 50/50 mix? Should I drain some of the coolant out and replace with my jug of antifreeze? Or leave it be?

2. While I was bleeding the system the fans never came on and the gauge read the temp at the last line before the red bar... shouldn't the fans come on before this? The little led never came on (and it's supposed to) and I don't remember hearing the fans whirring. Have I wired something wrong or are the fans just not going to operate now unless I flip the switch?

3. Even with the switch on high speed I couldn't get the car any cooler than about 180 Is it just because it's too hot in my garage.. or do I have a air pocket or something?

Thanks for the help,

hmmm...something isn't right...

my SLP fanswitch will drop the temp down to ~170 (just above the 160 mark w/ my 160* stat) in about 5 minutes on HI...

i would recheck your wiring

less than a 50/50 mix should be fine, there are guys that run straight hose water in theirs and nothing happens. Too much antifreeze would be a bad thing though. I would just leave it as is.

You can check to see if your fans will come on via the A/C they should come on when your ac is turned on. I've actually been having to do this lately, something is screwy with my fans also.
