cooling question, but not your typical scenario this time...plus y-pipe question too
1. The T/A was cooling GREAT until today. We've had 5 straight 90+ degree days here in Michigan and the beast never crested 170 with the electric wp, 160 stat, and reprogram for fan ON at 180. However, today the fans never turned on. What..the...hell. By the time I got to work the temp gauge read 210 but I'm sure it was much hotter because coolant was boiling out of the reservoir fill cap. Why on earth would the fans just stop turning on? I noticed the crappy cooling this morning, so when I picked up a couple new O2 sensors at the dealership I also got a new temp. sensor, that one that screws into the head. What's it called? Anyway, do you have any other suggestions as to why the fans would go to sh*t overnight? The only thing I did last night was toy with my window motor...removed the window and courtesy fuses...which would have nothing to do with messing up the PCM and thus fans. I also took a small amount of heat shielding off from below the ABS lines; it was rubbing on the header. Again, how could this possibly affect the fans.
Can I do any voltmeter testing on sensors to see if they're still working? This way I could hook up the new sensor and if it got no signal then I'd know it's melted wiring somewhere.
2. My y-pipe bangs against the floor. What can I put between it and the sheet metal to keep the engine from sensing knock?
THANKS!

First thing to check is the underhood fuses. There's more than one fuse under there that is tied into the cooling fans. Check the air pump fuse especially because it's tied in with the fans, and if you haven't had the air pump recall done then maybe the air pump is bad and you are blowing that fuse at start up. That's what happened to me. Air pump must be dead, so it kept blowing the a/p fuse when i would start the car. So i unplugged the air pump connector, put in a new fuse and the fans work and the fuse doesn't blow anymore. If all the fuses are good then i guess you could use your fog light relay and plug it into the other relay slots to see if one of your relays are bad.
