Cooling Fans Still Malfunctioning, Help!!
I wrote about a month or two ago about how my 93 Camaro Z28 was having cooling fan problems. Just as a recap,
- the fan motors do work, I jumped them and they turn on just fine.
- They work when I flash my PCM
- They work when my AC is operating.
For now, I have some speaker wire and toggle hooked up to my Coolant Temp. Sensor and I use that to turn them on and off. I'm taking some automotive classes at my local college and since the end of the year is here, our instructor has been letting us use the equipment on our cars. I took my car for a spin with a scanner hooked up and I found out that my fans will turn on by themselves at 109 degrees Celsius. But on my guage for the coolant temp, it shows it at about 1/3 the way into the red. Yes, the red. Is that the correct time for them to turn on? On the guage it would be a little over 220 degrees. Also, before my radiator exploded (Which is when all these problems started), the temp guage would stay around half. Even in traffic during 100+ degree weather. Is it possible that my therm has screwed up? Now the heat in the engine rises all the way to red and I don't think the therm opens much. Any comments are much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

if you switch your heat control to either off the defrost settings when the temp is above 180 , with the fan on 4, the fans should come on.
I wish these cars had the old school fan that was not electric like my 88 caprice. IT never got hot in traffic .
Anyone know of a way to ditch the electric fans and go to a belt controled fan?
