cooling fans not coming on

yesterday my 96 z28 was running hotter than usual when stopped in gear. checked later and didn't see the cooling fans running. outside temp was 72 degrees.

How can I get the fans running again? could it be a fuse?

thanks

Yes it could be a fuse or one of a few relays. Check them out and see which it is.

"Hotter than usual" is not descriptive enough. The fans don't come on until 226 degrees. If it's not getting that hot, you have no problem.

Termp gauge goes up 3/4 of the way (close to 240) and didnt do it before yesterday.

how do i tell if a relay is bad? Neither fan is coming on.

thanks

This is a bitch of a problem. Check the threads and I posted mine. Hopefully its something easy like a fuse or the coolant temp sensor in the wp, otherwise good luck!

What is wp? water pump? where is the sensor located? Also, I ran the ac for 10-15 minutes earlier in the day. Any connection? how do I check a relay?

thanks

I meant water pump, the sensor is located on the bottom right hand side of it( if you looking from the front of the car) It sticks out almost under the intake elbow. Check the Relays under the hood by hooking up a couple wires to a car ground and the battery 12v, and probe around the relay prongs if it makes a "click" noise then its good. Test all 3 of them, also check the A/p - Fan fuse in the same box make sure its now blown. Do your fans come on when the a/c is on?
