Question Cooling/Computer Help

I just purchased my SS and I know I want it to run much cooler I was wondering what are the recommended methods to tune the computer to get the fan temp lowered. I have owned a number of 3rd Gens and know that there are tables in the PROM to tune to get the fan temp lowered but from what I understand it is a bit easier with an LT1. I don't plan on doing many mods to the motor for a bit since my IROC is more of my modified street car. However I would like the fans to come on at at least 180 and I plan on a cooler thermostat. I know I can wire up a manual switch but I figure why not get the computer do work for you TIA

You can do it with LT1 edit like I did. You could also opt for a Power Programmer, but those are virtually useless IMO. It's pretty much a $350 fan switch!

Cool

What do I need for the LT1 edit? I already have a laptop, and the software plus pocket programmer for the 3rd Gens but I doubt I need all that for an LT1 right? Thanks again

You'll need your laptop, plus the software and a cable. Check out www.carputing.com. The software is outstanding and gives you ability to modify virtually any PCM controlled function.

Thumbs up Thanks

Figured I would have to buy more software

And it's pricey!

You can also get Tunercat. It is a little cheaper and does essentially the same stuff as LT1_edit.
