Coolant in the oil.. Fixable?

I've been chasing down a missfire for a week on this motor, and I just checked the oil (earlier in the week it was good and black) now it's watery, and smells like coolant.

It also blows alot of blue smoke out the tail pipes.

Haven't checked to see if theres oil in the coolant yet, the motor is still a bit warm.

Is this a head gasket leak? Intake gasket leak? How do I tell?
What should I do, to see if it's saveable or not?

Definately sounds like a head gasket, but also sounds like you are getting a lot of oil past the piston rings. Coolant getting into that cylinder could have tore something up pretty good. Only way to be sure is pulling heads, which it sounds like you willneed to do anyway.

Consider an LT1 swap! (if you really have a 3800)

I think he has a different car than the one in the signature so he needs to tell us this each time which one he's taliking about. A blown headgasket is bad for either a v6 or v8 but thats my guess as will most agree.

NEVERMIND.
It's gas in the oil, I think, mixed with some really fine metal shavings.

Took off the valve covers, and here's what I found:

Well you found a problem. Be sure what ever you do that you don't run the car with the gas in you oil. Be sure to change it at least 2 times when you fix it.

Turned out it was lifter failure, all the internals popped out of it.

Got it back together, and runs on 8 cylinders again!

Good that you got it together. Did you notice any damage to the cam lobe from the failed lifter?

Never got to look at the cam, didn't need to. Just needed to pull the remainder of the lifter out, and put a new one in.

And the lifters are Federal Moguls.

Are those non-self aligning rockers?

I can't really tell for sure from the picture, but they look as if they are non-self aligning which would require you to run guide plates (which you don't have). Guide plates also require hardened pushrods, as you probably know.

Others that are more knowledgeable than I am will want to chime in, but if they are NSA rockers and you do not have guide plates, then that may well be the source of your problem.

Best of luck.
