Coolant in the oil AND the exhaust

I'm 95% sure I have a blown head gasket (at least), however, I'd like to have some backup on troubleshooting the coolant in the oil.

How certain is it that I have a cracked block?

tia,

The odds are you just have a blown head gasket, not a cracked block. Pull the heads off and have them Magnafluxed and surfaced, and put it back together....with new gaskets of course!

i would deffinatly pull the heads off and check that out first, and dont drive the car too much, too much coolant in the oil/cylinders can cause the motor to hydrolock...then its time for a rebuild...just got done with that after mine locked up...good luck

Cody...LOL.

I don't see how coolant can get into the oil from the headgasket, but I don't know much about anything either .

The heads are definitely getting yanked - I'm putting the car on jackstands for now.

blocks dont crack unless they are bored over. coolant can get into oil by this: the piston rings are worn. coolant collects in the cynlinder. coolant seeps down past the piston rings and into the oil pan.

btw: its a head gasket

ide jsut put new gaskets in it, and have the heads machined...you can get blowby on a new motor with new rings...there designed to compress air, not liquid...BTW, how many miles are on the motor?

As I suspected, it was a head gasket failure. Cylinders 7 & 8 were getting coolant.

1st pick looks to be the side that was leaking through..other pic looks like the signs of the coolant getting on the gasket from pulling the head..I wouldnt think you would have both sides pop a gasket...unless it overheated..

Glad thats all it is..

Smile

Judging by the valves on the heads along with the gaskets, both gaskets failed. The car overheated for about 2-3 minutes a month ago.

Oh well..so much for a bling 383 short block .
