Coolant Light - Service Engine Light and a Noise that sounds like a blower

Ok, so first I have a 1994 Camaro Z28 Convertible, stock. No mods, no nother.

85 K on it right now. I just recently got it out of storage and after it passed inspection I decided to drive it home.

Got in the car and about 5 minutes after driving on an expressway the service engine light came on. Then 5 minutes after that the coolant light came on.

I go to park the car at work and turn off the engine and it sounds like a fan is still cycling once the car is off and then comes to an abrupt stop. Very loud noise, similiar to that of an overheating PC fan, but a lot louder. However no high temps in the car or anything, all the gauges read fine.

Back to the coolant light, it only comes on about 10 to 15 minutes after driving the car around but stays on until I turn the car off.

So anyone have any idea on the coolant light, could it be the temperature sensor?

As for the noise any ideas?

I am extremely stumped on the service engine light but will hopefully get it to a shop to get the codes soon.

One last thing, at 85K should i be replacing my water pump? I heard the coolant light and noise could be related to the water pump as well.

Thanks very much

Mike

Coolant light is the coolant level sensor. So if its full then the sensor is bad. Just go to AutoZone, they can pull the codes.

The low coolant light is connected to a sensor in the radiator. Check your coolant. If it isn't low then the sensor is probably bad. It's on the radiator tank below the cap. They seem to fail a lot. You can replace it or just unplug it. It's only connected to the low coolant light and doesn't affect anything else. I just unplugged mine. Just be sure to check the coolant regularly.

The noise is most likely the radiator fans running. A lot of codes that turn on the service engine light will cause the fans to run. You'll have to scan the PCM to see what the code is. Every time I have had a code that only comes on after about five minutes, it was an egr code.

Unless your water pump is leaking I wouldn't replace it.

I don't think Autozone pulls OBDI codes anymore.

Check the coolant in the radiator when it is cold and make sure it is to the top.

If the fans were on high (which they would be with a trouble code) you probably just heard them spinning down when you turned the key off.
