Convertible owners, anyone had their top replaced?

Hey guys, my top is starting to show signs of age, and a few seams have come undone. I'm going to look into having it repaired, but how much is it to have it replaced? Thanks!

I forget what the actual cost of the replacement tops are, But i do believe this one of those items that is cheaper from Year One, than it is from a GM dealer. Not sure as to your location, or your financial situation, if you live near PA, you may want to contact a salvage yard like F-parts salvage in Bristol PA, www.fparts.us they might be able to get you that is decent shape off a wrecked car for significantly less.

Hmm.... will the Year One top be of the same quality as a GM top? For something like... my roof... I don't mind paying extra for a superior product.

I'm not sure how good the quality on the Year One tops are. You can get a factory one for $800-1000 from Gm Parts Direct.

I'm betting the Year One tops are not the same quality as the GM replacment. The Year One tops are considerably cheaper--and since they're not known for their incredibly low prices, I can't see them selling a higher quality top for less.

Is that the top and heated glass? That seems cheap for the dealer. My top is in for replacement soon too. I think that beyond the top you might be in for the interior liner, maybe cables, weatherstrip, and whatever other misc hardware is involved. I have looked at a couple of places on the net.

No glass--just the top.

Had mine replaced last year. The back gas blew out going about 80 on the Interstate. Rolled the window down and BAM! Scared the hell out of me. Anyway, the Chevy dealer here in Shreveport takes all their top replacement to a independent shop down the street. Knowing this I just went directly to the uplostery shop they use and it cost me $1100 for a complete GM top and labor. It was like $1500 if I dropped it off at the dealer. Basically the dealer makes $400 just to drive my car over there and pick it up. What a rackit. This included overnighting a new top from Dallas and I had it back in less than 48 hrs. AFAIK, most dealers have all ulpolstry/top work done by some local business.
