Converter Questions? 4L60E-700R4

Ok a friend of my has a 3000 stall (non lock up) he had for his 93 Z, 700R4, but is no longer using it. He is giving it to me. But the question i have is, will this converter work in my 97 Z 4L60E? Just wanna know before i go and rip my tranny out and then find out it won't work.
Thanks Brad

Yes, it will work. My coan 3500 stall came out of my buddies 96 Z, and it bolted right up to my 93 T.A.

I am not to sure about that I believe that the 4L60E trannys need a locking convertor.. you might want to do some more checking into it before going through the hassel of installing it just to take it back out. Your local chevy dealer would know...

Actually, that may be correct. I didn't catch the non-lockup part...The converter I installed was a lockup. I'm not sure if yours will work or not. I'd imagine if you just used some tuning software and moved your torque converter lockup speed to something crazy like 150 mph, it might not be a problem.

Ok, that would suck. Anyone else have any info if it has to be a lock up converter? I don't have the software to change my lock up speed. So anyone else wanna chime in here.
Thanks Brad

you will need a lock-up converter for your 4l60e. i'm not sure if you can modify anything for it to fit or not, but i would just look into a lock-up converter.

Well this sucks a FREE 3000 stall and can't use it. DAM. Why would it need to be a lock-up, how would it hurt anything if it wasn't. This really sucks. Anyone else know for sure?

I don,t think you have to have a lockup converter, I don,t know for sure but I remember reading about people not having the lockup in there race cars or something. I think you will get more heat and less MPG but again not sure.
Someone who knows about this please chime in.
I thought when you accelerated the converter unlocked.
I thought steady state cruise is the only time the converter did lock up.
Maybe I am totally wrong, but we need some one with more knowledge on this topic before you turn down that converter.

ALLMOTORTA-
Have you had any lockup problems running the 3500 stall on your OBD I? If so who worked out the kinks for you?
