Considering rebuild

Hello Everyone,
I dont post often but always read the threads and its apparent that there are some really knowledgable members here. I own the car in my sig, and have owned it since new. It runs great as a bolton car. The car is not a daily driver and is only used on the summer weekends. I'm happy with it but want something more as far as HP and Torque.

The car must pass NY Emissions every year.
I was thinking about a set of LE2 heads and the Crane 227 Cam. I havent spoken to Lloyd yet but I know he has an emissions grind too which I should consider. Do you think I will be ok with this setup for both reliability and emissions? I never track the car. Just looking for a really fun steet car with tourque. I also want really good drivability like a stock car. I never beat on it and dont rev past 5800. I also change the oil every 2k miles.

I was also considering a new 355 bottom end from VRE. Do you think this is necessary given the mileage on my car?

I just want a reliable, tame car that will pass emissions and be fun to drive. Not looking to set any track records but do not want EVOs and WRXs even thinking that they can take me

Your opinions are greatly appreciated so Thank You in advance for your replies.

If you have the cash for the 355 short block then it's always nice to have a spare motor, (set yours aside for "that" day).

But

If your bottom end is running fine right now, it will take a Crane 104227 cam and a nice set of heads and work very very well. The 227 cam is very stock-like but a very strong performer.

It's a very good plan you have, (either way).

Thanks, Does anyone run LE2 heads and a Crane 227? or do you think I should go with a custom grind from Lloyd? I read in a lot of posts that the 227 is great for a mild street car and it doesnt need to spin too high to make power. Do you think I should take the money for the 355 and put it into a tranny and 2800 converter instead since there is nothing wrong with my engine now and it has been well maintained? Would that be good for the street?

Also, will the 227 pass emissions?

Thanks again!

If you do a heads/cam setup, then you will want diffent gearing and a different stall to optimize your setup. If your money is starting to get thin, then it might not be a bad idea to go for those things first over a shortblock. I would talk to Lloyd about you cam questions, I'm sure he can find you a cam that will make more power then the Crane or something to cater to emissions inspections.
