Compression test results...where did the oil go???

Well after finding out that My car "ate" 1.5 quarts of oil in about 700 miles of semi-hard driving I did a compression test (engine cold and no oil squirted in the cyl ) . Here are the results.

#1=189 psi #2=188 PSI
#3=183 #4=183
#5=190 #6=183
#7=190 #8=194

Well I think that those numers are respectable for a 1995 with 79K, but where else could the oil be going? I did find that three of the spark plugs were only hand tight when I took them out for the test, and they did have a bit of oil down the threads. A couple of the passenger side rockers seem to be a decent amount louder than the drivers side ( Comp R lifters and pro mag 1.6 rockers ) The vave timing must be good I would think with those compression numbers, someone correct me please if I am wrong. Also the car has a custom cam that tends to make it load up on fuel at idle. (I am getting it tuned tomorrow ) It seems to run good and pull hard, I'm just puzzled where this oil could be going? Should I proceed with getting it dyno tuned tomorrow ? Thanks for the help.

I was thinking that but I just replaced the valve seals less than 1000miles ago.

That is true! I have a leakdown tester (but no compressor ) so when I find one I think that I'll do a leakdown test. That should tell me if the valve seals are bad correct?

Also the plugs on #1,2 and 5 look a bit lean and plug 7 had a good amount of black all over it. The other plugs had a dark carmel color to them. Shouldn't all of the spark plugs be uniform for the most part? They only had about three houndred miles on them. Could the loading at idle cause the plugs to burn like that?

I would put money on valve seals.

Leak down test won't tell you anything about the valve seals.
All the plugs should be pretty much the same but if you need a tune and loading up then that will contribute to oil consumption.

Ok, thanks I just got ahold of a compressor but you saved me some time by letting me know that. Thanks! I'll probably do a leak test at least on #7 which had the worst looking plug just to see if I find anything.

If its not the valve seals, then its the intake gasket.

Valve seals...well I don't get smoke on startup??? So I guess that I probably have an intake gasket thats leaking oil into the cyl. I think that I'll try re-torquing the intake then getting the tune right in closed loop idle before I remove the intake again. Thanks to everyone for the help!
