Compression Test results
Compression Test results
I remobed all plugs, propped tb open, and gave each cylinder four compression stroked (hold it down till it cycled 4 times) here are those results 180,190,190,175,180,179.180,179. Next I did what the instructions said on the compression tester which was to let it crank untilthe needle stopped climing on the guage (usually took like 6-8 cycles) here are those results 190,205,205,192,190,185,193,187. The two cylinders w/ the 205 psi rating are the ones which spark plugs had some oil deposits on the them (most likely from valve stem seals) so the high rating could be from oil in the cylinder or carbo deposits. I also noticed that one of my plugs when removing it was only hand tight in the cylinder (wtf? I put these on like 3 months ago) and another plug had oil all over the porcelian part of it and boot so I am guessing I ahve a leaky valve cover seal as well. What does everyone think? My car will puff smoke on startup when you run it for a while, then turn it off and turn it back on within like 10 minutes, if you let it sit for like an hour it wont puff on startup but you can kinda smell it when you rev it up, my engine smells real rich for some reason, and it will also give a small puff of smoke right when you punch it.
EDIT: Reminder my car is a 93 formula w/ 100k, engine as cold, no oil squirted into cylinders.

Re: Compression Test results
You have nothing to worry about on your compression. Sounds like you figured out your oil deposit problem. I'll also put my money on valve guide seals. Does it put out a descent puff of smoke when you start it up (more pronounced in the morning).

If the smoke goes away after start up, then more than likely is your valguide seals. Our intakes like to leak oil from where the bead of rtv sits between the block/intake on the front or rear. It seems like there are more leaks in the rear of the intake. You could pull your valve covers to see if there is anything obvious. My bet is you have a shot valve guide seal or seals.

Re: Compression Test results
What color is the smoke? Normally if the valve guides are starting to wear it will puff blue smoke when the engine is cold, like in the mornings as Zman said. If it is smoking when it's hot, you might have to another issue like hot (thinner) oil getting past the rings, maybe. It's hard to tell since your compression test looks ok, not great, but you do have 100K on the motor so there not bad by any means. Do you notice any oil consumption? Just as long as you aren't spraying your neighborhood for mosquitos when you drive down the street you should be ok, lol.
Re: Compression Test results
on startup its just a puff, when driving normal or 1/2 3/4 throttle its fine. Only when you punch it at WOT you will get a little puff out the back. I go throught maby like 3/4-1 quart every 1000 miles but thats driving it hard, driving easy I could get it to last longer w/ out needing to add oil.
