Competition Thinks Ai Car Has 700 HP!
Well, we have just gotten back from a long weekend of SCCA ITE road racing in our 1994 Camaro. We had quite the weekend!
2 Races
2 Poles
2 Wins
Competition was hot and heavy in the class with the typical variety of cars classed to run close despite the difference in makes/models. The top 4 cars were so close you could throw a blanket over us. Our Camaro led every lap of both races and the new power demonstrated by the new 383 from S&S Automotive and the new 200cc head/cam combo from Ai caused one competitor to claim on his Porsche forums that he was beaten by a 700 HP Camaro "monster"
I wish I had 700 HP!
(Dyno'd right at 451 RWHP with some work to do on intake/exhaust restrictions) It IS nice though that, in comparison, some of my competition thinks I have that much up on them!
I did not take the time to put in my video camera yet...requires some safety requirments I am working on, but here is a short and grainy clip of a couple of my persuers getting together in turn 14-15 at Thunderhill Raceway:

That is the Green Monster in front! A couple of them are going to post their race videos soon, so I should have more footage to link soon.....it was a MONSTER race!
That makes 3 races for us this year and 2 Poles, 2 Wins, and a Second at Laguna Seca! We are now first in points in the series despite missing the first event of the year!
Will keep ya posted!

the grid was set:
620rwhp camaro (700hp) on the pole

Yeah....I was sorta relying on the power a bit too much. I only equaled my best time at the track, and with the added HP and pull down the straights I should have bettered it by quite a bit.
Problem was I was approaching the turns so much faster, I was unused to it and overbraked and did not hit the turns as fast as I did last year when I had only 395 RWHP. We go up again in a few weeks, and we will try and work that out!
Go to scca.com or nasaproracing.com and check out racing events near your area. Texas should have a lot of action. NASA does a lot of HPDE's which is an easy way to get started with your own street car, a safety check, and a helmet. Most these days start in HPDE events....
Loved how you pulled away in the streights Randy. Those other cars took the turns like go-karts though.
Would you or S&S Engines be willing to share your engine oiling set up? It'd be neat to hear what you have for pump and cooling in your super solid 383. I just put the same valve train that you have in a customers FI drag race 383LT1, (The Ai spec Xceldyne retainers/locks, PSI springs, shaft rockers. . . . )
I'm trying to learn what the successful road racers are doing for engine longevity and this set up you have looks to be certainly successful.
thanks
Karl
