CompCams Help Oil pump Drive Gear
I built a new engine about 6 months ago since then I've had to replace the oil drive assembly twice. The teeth are completely eaten off. The Cam gear looks good no scaring. Both of these gears ,that broke, were Chevy OEM parts. What gear should I use with a compcams cam shaft to keep this from happening? Has anyone else had this problem? Also the oil pump is a High Volume pump. Cooled Idle I have about 80 PSI and hot Idle I have about 36 - 38 PSI. Any help will be greatfull
Thanks

1st drop down to a 0W-30 and see if that lowers the cold PSI
then if that doesn't help go to a M55 oil pump from the auto parts store. (M55 is a standard volume replacement)

Re: CompCams Help Oil pump Drive Gear
Ya want volume not pressure. If ya changed the spring that would do it. If your brg clearences are .002 then ya don't need all that pump, but it shouldn't eat up the gear. Call Comp and see if they have a fix.
I have run more pump and pressure than that and not had a problem--Talking BB HV pump with a spring.

Re: CompCams Help Oil pump Drive Gear
I think my brg clearences was pretty close to .002. The Machine shop that did my machine work Highly recommend this HV pump. I think I'm going to try the lower weight oil and then replace the pump with a standard one, if compcams can not give me a good solution. I just hope I did not damage the bottom end. I was hoping that this was a normal problem and there was an easy fix instead of pulling the engine again.

Re: CompCams Help Oil pump Drive Gear
Comp makes a gear that isn't metal and may have a longer life.
Hope the metal from the two previous gears didn't hurt thing's.
