comp R lifters/ promag 1.6 LASH setting

Hey guys my car is in the shop right now almost up and running and as the title says im running comp r lifters with promag 1.6 non self aligning rockers the springs are beehives.. I have read on here alot of times about people leaving the lash on this type of setup at just above 0 lash.. My mechanic has this a 1/4 turn past zero lash. I told him about you guys doing yours at zero and he said that they will need preload or they will make alot of noise. Any opinions on this? should i reset them when i get home with the car?

I don't think any of the threads said to run them at zero lash. All the threads I remember say to give it a little lash. Lol, can anyone give an opinion that has not already been voiced?

I run 1/8th past zero. Its always better to go on the loose side if your tolerances are tight.

Re: comp R lifters/ promag 1.6 LASH setting

The R lifters hve a SMALL oil bleed off hole in them and can handle LOTS of RPM and springs pressure for a hyd roller. The only bad part is that if they are ANY tigher than they need to be, they will pump up and hold the valves open at high RPM. This causes all kinds of tuning issues and the cr will miss, pop or just lay over up top. As a "best case scenario": the car will just not run as goos as it "coul/should" with properly adjusted valves.

You need to adjust them to no more than 1/8 or even 1/16 past zero lash. Just tight enough to make them quiet. These are NOT normal lifters that are forgiving at 1/4 to 1/2 past zero lash. These are very picky about lash.

I guess as long as he doesn't mind going back and not charging to re adjust them properly later on, it cool. You might explain about the oil bleed off hole being smaller and see what he says. He will be happier doing it right the first time and you will b happier having your car running "right" the first time. I guess if he wony listen hopefully the rest of the parts were installed correctly to on your 96 model LS1 . . . I mean LT1, LOL.

Re: comp R lifters/ promag 1.6 LASH setting

man the ****in car is already back together and im having a torque converter problem. This is a ****ing disaster. my tranny slips through al the tgears and the converter wont lock up i told him about the R lifters wanting alot less lash when he put them on and he said that they needed preload or they would be loud so now i have a battle with this shop because of the converter.. its a brand new vig and he's telling me it must be broken. i think the likely hood of him messing up the install is more likely.

Loyd's right, they are finicky about lash. They're also an anti-pump lifter and although we talk alot about them on this forum, they aren't necessarily needed unless your running a good deal of camshaft.

I run them with very slight preload but there have been proponents of setting them to "zero" with the engine hot, whcih I don't necessarily recommend.

I am trying to figure out what type of lifters to buy to replace my factory lifters (while I have the car down that far for my cam / head install). What size cam would you go to R's on? I will be running a Comp Cams 224/236 112LSA. I plan to order lifters next week.

a good upgrade without the "hassle" of R's is the Comp 850's

Has anyone else used 850's (any other suggestions)? I need to get my lifters on order this week to get the install rolling.
