The lifters in question are in production as we speak. They should be here andready for shipment hopefully by mid May. Stay in touch with me, and I'll get them to you asap.

But though the specs are the same, will the end result be

Not a big deal either way.. don't know what the big deal is about the 875's.. methinks people are enamored with the "R" moniker .

I am waiting for a set myself, I was told that they would be shipping out sometime mid March. If thats the case, I am not waiting till May to do this heads and cam swap, I have everything else I need. Hey SkarodoM , what would you reccomend to use in place of the Comp R lifters? The 875-16's? A set of GM stock replacements?

Hah, Comp said the same thing to me a year ago. Some other company took over production of them and they'd be up shortly.

Comp 850's are considered to be stock replacements even though OE parts are manufactured by Crane.

Comp 875's are Comp "R" Lifters.

i really dunno what all the hype is about those lifters. if they were so much better than stockers then why were they the same price?

I was asking myself the same thing.. Why all the Hype. To say "Me has Comp "R" Lifters".... ??? I am getting the 875-16 because that is what I already ordered. I didn't even pay attention to what is "Better" than the other...

Does anybody know what the difference is between the 850's and the 875's ("R") lifters are? I heard that the "R" lifter is supposed to be some type of "low bleed" lifter. Not really sure what that means, or how it is benificial performance wise. The "R" lifter has been hyped up a lot around here, giving me the impression that its the best one for the job. If there is no distinct difference between the two, I will just go for the 850's. Its killing me to see my heads, intake, and cam sitting on my parts shelf in the garage waiting for lifters that might show up to my house along with the second coming of Christ. If anyone can shed some more light on the subject, or anymore facts on the infamous "R" lifter, please shed some light on this subject, thanks.

my guess is the 875 just has a stiffer spring in it so yo dont collapse them as easily with high lift cams and large valve springs with a lot of open pressure. the "low bleed" means the lifter, when pumped up, wont lose pressure as fast.

Hey turbo_Z thanks for the reply. Thats what I pretty much figured they were. Looks like I should hold out for the "R"'s if the come out in a reasonable amount of time. With the cam Im going to use and the spring pressure I am running, I dont want to chance collapsing a lifter.

I think they have a differant retainer clip in them as well, I was told by Thunder racing that if I can find the R's to definatly use them with my 230-236. luckily I found a brand new set a few months back. Now just need to finish the rest of the motor.

i bought a gmpp roller lifter kit from the parts counter at the chebby dealer for my 230/236 cam. the bottom end of the engine gave out, but the valvetrain held up fine. i personally don't see the big deal about the comp R's, but i probably would have bought them if they had been available last october.
