Comp LT1 timing chain

Does anyone know anything about it, the same one they used in Thunder Chicken in GMHPM? Is it better than the stock LT1 chain? I am just looking for alternatives to the $400 LT4 chain. I want to keep the stock wp too if it is any consolation.

Thanks
Jeremy

Well it is more durable than the stock chain but last time i checked it to is very expensive. If you don't want to spend alot of money on a timing set and want to keep the stock water pump then just use a new factory set,it will work fine if you keep the rpm below 6500 and as long as you don't race autocross or road races. If you intend to autocross then i would highly recommend a heavy duty timing set.

Why? Because of the constant on and off of the petal?

I just went through this decision. I chose the extreme duty LT1/LT4 timing chain kit GM P/N 12370835 My second choice was the LT4 timing chain. Since the price for these was fairly similar, I thought I might as well get the ED set for the added assurance.

Does anyone not recommend the GM ED set? Why?

Cloyes double roller anyone? The thing is a beast, and only like $80. You need need an electric h20 pump too, but those can be found for 140. So for 220 you get a badass chain, and a badas h20 pump :-D

I went with the LT4 extreme duty timing set when i put in my hotcam. No problems so far. It only costed me a cool $210 though from jason cromer. He hooked it up cheap like he always does. Dont know what i would do without that guy's cheap A** prices!!!!

If you go to LT4 set, use the extreme duty set. Talked to cloyes engineer over gm section, he pointed out the the regular LT4 timing set has no advantage over regular LT1 set. The extreme is the only set for sustained hi-performance. May want to get the oversized crank gear, though, will reduce slack in timing chain. At the bare minimum, if retaining stock gears, get new chain. Like noted above, Jason has very good prices. LT1, LT4 and LT4 ED sets are manufactured by Cloyes anyway.

Matt, that was some very good info. Thanks.

Some report some louder chain noise with the ED set. I trust if there is some added noise that it is minor and doesn't interfer with the knock sensor. Any reports of problems with any additional chain noise on the ED set?

Lets do a little math.

Cloyes LT1 timing set - 600
Comp Cams timing set - 600
LT4 Extreme Duty - 210
Cloyes double roller & CSI Electric H20 pump - 220

Cloyes and CSI may net you a little more horsepower for CHEAP! Its a must do mod for those going to a bigger cam and needing a new timing set.

Just remember if you go double roller on an OBD2 car you have to eliminate the Crank position sensor that monitors which cylinder is misfiring. Something I personally did not want to lose.. so I purchased the LT4 Extreme set for my cam

Some of us 96-97 guys may want to keep the CPS. So I wouldn't say it's so cut and dry. Oh and If your not 95 and newer you have to convert to a vented Opti...

So I wouldn't say that going double roller is always the cheapest way to go.

just my 2 cents
