Comp Beehive Ovate Valve Springs

I have been reading as much as possible on the Comp
beehive springs the last couple of weeks. The following
is a Comp press release and an article on the concept.

Comp Press Release
David Vizard Article

Some SS Impala folks have installed these in LT1s. There
is still a lot to dial in to make them work but it sounds really
promising. The spring is very close to stock for the base ID
and OD, and the top (retainer end) is smaller and needs
special retainers. It sounds like Comp is making a retainer
for the LT1 (LS1 and LT1 valve stems are different dia.).

Has anyone put these on an LT1 f-body? If so please share
you knowledge with the rest of us.

Well I just ordered the 26915 springs, 787-16
retainers, and 648-16 keepers. The retainers
and keepers are the conversion parts needed
to use this springs on an LT1. I'm going to keep
the Isky 235-Ds and related hardware until I do
the cam swap + spring change. I will see how the
26915s fit and if I like what I see, install them. If
I'm not happy I'll just stick with the original plan
and install the 235-Ds. I figure I can sell whatever
I don't install later.

I am very happy with the 918 springs that I have been using for almost a year now.

What are the specs on the cam that you're running? I picked up a used 236/242 comp custom grind and I'd like to run the new ovate spring setup, I also just saw someone local selling a set of 918 springs for quite a bit off new.

Anyway, I'm wondering if 918s would be overkill for a setup that probably won't see over 6200-6500RPM.

I was first using them with the Comp 305 cam (220/230/114) but I just recently replaced it with a custom grind cam from Comp (236/245/112).

I have been very happy with these springs. They have worked well.

Sweet. I appreciate the info. I probably should've asked it in the last post, but are you running the regular Comp OE replacement lifters or the Rs?

I had the stock lifters in there with the Comp 305 but changed them out with Comp Rs when I put the new cam in.

Re: Comp Beehive Ovate Valve Springs

I dont get it.... I thought the part number for this springs was either 26915 or 26918. I can only find a price for the 26918 at CompCams.com. So who sells the 26915? I saw a reference to a kit using the 26915 at the website but I only wanted the springs, retainers and valve locks... not the pushrods cause I will be using the Scorpions 1.7 rrs...

Anyone has any idea?

here from CompCams.com
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quantity in Basket:none
Code: 54050

I dont want those pushrods. Can anyone help me find the 26915's by themselfs? I am planning to eventually upgrade to the HotCam later on and thats it. I dont really race my car. I just want a pimped up daily driver.

Can anyone help ?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Comp Beehive Ovate Valve Springs

Wow. I almost forgot about this thread. You should be able to get the
26915 springs from anyone that sells Comp parts. They should be in the
$139 to $149 range.

Hotcam lift with 1.7s = .558"

I know what the 26915's and 26918's go for to dealers, and I think that $139-$149 is a bit low. I would expect the prices for them to start around $160 a set or in that area for the 26915's and probably $10-$20 more for the 26918's. Look at Jeg's and Summit for example.

There are also Comp locators that are made for the beehive springs, they don't have them in the catalog but if you use a 1.250" locator you will be golden.

Re: Comp Beehive Ovate Valve Springs

Here's a question concerning the beehive springs:

I'm currently running the XE618 springs (150# seat pressure @ 1.8" IS, 350# pressure @ .600 lift). If I ever get the car running right I'm thinking a switch just for comparison purposes. Knowing that the beehive springs allow less pressure to be run, I'm wondering just how much less.

Also, my heads were machined for the Comp 4776 spring seats. Would anyone know if there's a locator for the beehive springs that would fit the new seat footprint???

I believe the part number is: 4705-16

Search that number on the web and see what you come up with.

And to answer an earlier question the 26915 and 26918 fit stock spring seats.
