Comp 987 spring?

Comp 987 spring?

Any thoughts on the 987s? It seems that these springs might not be enough for the small Joe O cam that I'm running. The dyno charts shows that it only pulls to about 5900 and falls off the table. All though the cam is on the small side I was told by Lloyd the lobes are pretty aggressive. He also mentioned it should pull to at least 6100 with the shift point about 300 higher. The shop I deal with wants to change them out to the 918s and I'm thinking this is a good time to lose the Comp R's also. Any thoughts? And if your wondering, the valvetrain was adjusted to zero lash.

I had LE do my heads and he installed 987's for the cam in my sig. At the install height (1.800? ; I can't remember) he said they were good for .600 lift by the math and so recommended no more than .580 lift. Anyway, I believe the XE cams have pretty aggressive lobes and at my lift the springs have been fine.

I suppose only Joe O knows your cam specs?? if so I would try to contact him. Everything else is just guessing. No sense putting in springs that are harder on the valvetrain.

PoorMan, the cam specs are a little bit bigger than a HotCam, although we all know how small changes in the specs can make for some nice gains in HP. I'm thinking either I have a bad set of springs, were not set right as far as installed height, or the once a week that I started it up in the bitter cold last winter was not such a good idea. Anyways, I believe the beehives will actually be easier on the valvetrain, not harder as you mentioned. We shall see in a couple of weeks if they and the new lifters make a difference.
