Cold air is a tight fit and seems a bit to long. Help plz

I just got a cold air induction setup form a board member. It looks just like the chrome SLP but he said it was a GM part. It looks great; it just needs some new filters on it. I put it on last night to test fit it. And it’s a tight fit. I had to remove my radiator cover to slip it in between the radiator and my power brake unit. Once on got the pipe in place, I hooked up my MAF and 1le elbow. When I went to hook up my elbow to the TB the aliment was off between ¼” to ½”. I tried compressing the elbow and I think I can get it on. The main problem is now my MAF has moved said distance closer to the radiator. And one of the plugs on the brake unit is in the way of the MAF plug. So I have to turn my MAF so the plug is either on top or on the bottom. Is this normal for the cai to be such a tight fit? He had it on his 97SS so I don’t see why it wouldn’t go on my 96Z. Can I get an aftermarket MAF that’s not as thick as the stocker? Or maybe one that doesn’t have such a huge plug on the side? Or I’ve seen MAF adaptors for cold air. Would these help?

Thanks for any info

Cool

I had the sames fitment issue with the elbow on throttle body using a SLP unit which is similar if not same as the GM unit. Once my elbow ripped I went a different route.

I just slid the rubber connection at MAF until it fit and clamped it tight to hold. Made what seemed to be a simple install a PIA to get it in. Once radiator cover was removed and radiator pulled forward it did slip in to squeeze next to ABS components.

I believe I have seen this fitment issue posted here before. It does fit but the elbow winds up being scrunched as you describe.

Didn't affect performance for me. Heck I even duct taped rip at throttle body until I changed setup with no performance issues.

i'm not sure, but maybe it needs to be cut. I had a K&N CAI and came with a adapter to make it longer to fit 93 cars. I then had a ram air set up and it came extra long to fit 93's and you had to cut off a few extra inchs if you had a 94-97. So maybe you just need to trim yours.

Thanks for the info guys. I was thinking about cutting like a quarter in. off on the MAF side. But it start to taper down about an inch from the hose clamp. And that wouldn't leave much room to get the gasket and hose clamp back on. Plus if it doesn't fit I'll just going to try and sell it and get something else. So I don't want to saw on it. I was mostly worried about the MAF plug because the brake unit is in the way now. But I guess I can spin it so the plug is on the bottom. After work I'm going to pick up some new filter and see if I can in.

yeah my SLP one does the same thing, its tightly fitted between the radiator plastic cover and one of the abs brake line. been that way for like a year already. doesnt do anything, i guess it keeps it from moving around =P

My SLP slid right into place. Its pretty tight, but I had no problems. I was considering trimming the CAI on the MAF side a quarter inch as well. Not a real problem though. My elbow is a little crammed but still takes 2 minutes to hook back up to the TB and MAF.
